In his welcoming address, Markus Marhoffer underscored the importance of the topic, stressing that, in the face of escalating social division and dwindling trust in institutions, it's crucial to sensitize young people to democratic values. The competition aimed to inspire young minds to contemplative and well-informed reflection on the topic.

Urging Social Responsibility

During his speech, Christian Wulff emphasized the need for active commitment to democratic principles. He underscored that it's essential not to overlook the democratic achievements we have already attained. The presence of the former head of state imbued the evening with an air of glamour while simultaneously highlighting the gravity of the matter.

  3. Prize: Amelie Boxler, Maristenkolleg Mindelheim

The winning essays resonated for their originality, clarity, and mature perspective on societal connections.

Memorable Moment: Democracy Special Prize

The special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Alt-Bundespräsident's Democracy Special Prize to the 14-year-old Anton Jansch from the Archigymnasium Soest. Instead of a traditional essay, Anton crafted a video to disseminate the KKV election appeal through social networks. The clip accumulated over 3,000 views on YouTube and reached over 30,000 online viewers. Wulff highly commended his commitment, acknowledging it as "an exceptional sign of lived democracy."
