Yale Students Raise $4,590 for New Haven Families in Annual YHHAP Fast
Yale students recently held the fall 2024 YHHAP fast on Nov. 23, coinciding with the Yale-Harvard game. The event raised $4,590 for Witnesses to Hunger, supporting local families in need.
Last year, YHHAP collected $18,360 for local food and housing service organizations. This year, Michael van Emmenes, Yale Hospitality's director of strategic initiatives, is planning the YHHAP fast with a focus on its impact. Billy Bromage, assistant clinical professor of psychiatry, sees the event as an opportunity for students to engage with New Haven.
Claire's Corner Copia, a community sponsor, has consistently supported the YHHAP fast. Claire Criscuolo, the owner, believes in investing in the New Haven community. However, Yale has restricted YHHAP to hosting their fundraising news once per year.
Isabella Barboza-Rodriguez '26, the YHHAP fast co-chair, is working to reenvision the event due to these changes. The funds raised this year will support Kimberly Hart, site leader of Witnesses to Hunger's New Haven chapter, who supports around one thousand families whose children rely on school meals.
The YHHAP fast, held annually at Yale, continues to make a significant impact on the New Haven community. Despite changes in frequency, the event remains committed to supporting local families in need, with Witnesses to Hunger as this year's beneficiary.
