VHS Lünen and Multi-Generational Home: Collaboration for Education and Interaction
Partnership Between VHS Lünen and DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus Strengthens Education and Culture in Lünen
In a bid to enhance education and cultural activities in Lünen, the Volkshochschule Lünen (VHS) and the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus have formed a partnership. This collaboration was initiated within the network "Lünen bewegt Bildung", a platform that brings together institutions, associations, and facilities to foster education in Lünen.
The partnership, officially announced on September 4, 2025, aims to create new educational and cultural events using the existing resources across institutions. The DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, with its open design facilities, is particularly suitable for events with an exchange character.
Björn Falke, the head of VHS Lünen, and Tim Jesella, the coordinator of the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, are managing this cooperation. They believe that this partnership will make lifelong learning tangible for all generations, transforming Lünen into a vibrant hub of learning and interaction.
One of the first joint events under this partnership is a weekly German language exchange event called "Sprachcafé Deutsch - Willkommen zum Austausch!". Starting today, this event takes place every Wednesday from 10:00 to 12:30 at the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, Luisenhüttenstraße 25. Participants can practice their German, overcome inhibitions, and make contacts in a relaxed and friendly environment. The "Sprachcafé" event is funded with means from the development allowance of the Further Education Act.
In addition to the language exchange event, the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus offers a variety of activities such as craft and creative circles, senior gymnastics, baby massage, communal lunches, colourful afternoons, and an annual Christmas bazaar. During summer, participants can also enjoy the sun terrace of the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus.
Mine Piristine, head of the program area at VHS Lünen, stated that the event offers opportunities for those who want to continue learning after an integration course or those who have not found a job yet. Björn Falke, director of VHS Lünen, emphasizes that the cooperation creates a real added value for the people in Lünen by combining low-threshold meeting offers with educational formats.
Tim Jesella, coordinator of the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, emphasizes the importance of the cooperation, stating that it allows for the expansion of the basic idea of encounter, openness, and togetherness with new educational and cultural offers. This partnership is a significant step towards connecting local educational offerings with intergenerational meeting formats, promising a bright future for education and culture in Lünen.
