Uvalde CISD Documents Reveal Security Failures at Robb Elementary School
Newly released documents from Uvalde CISD shed light on the district's handling of security measures at Robb Elementary School prior to and following the tragic shooting. The documents, totaling around 2,100 pages, include work orders, maintenance records, and communications related to the former chief of police and school principal. Notably, the district's new attorneys located video footage that was initially claimed to be nonexistent.
The released records reveal significant failures in the response to the shooting. The school's lockdown system and door maintenance were found to be inadequate, with doors failing to close properly on the day of the incident. The documents also include video exhibits from the termination hearing of former Uvalde CISD Police Chief Pete Arredondo, featuring body cam and hallway footage.
Arredondo sought over $1 million to resign quietly from the district, but his request was denied. Despite his arguments and claims of failure to provide adequate security measures, the district proceeded with his termination. The law firm Thompson & Horton has been retained to assist with future document releases.
The released documents provide a detailed look into the district's handling of security at Robb Elementary School and the subsequent response to the shooting. They highlight critical failures in the school's security systems and maintenance, raising questions about the district's preparedness and response to such tragic events. The total number of pages released is approximately 2,100.
