Park University Enters a Period of Transition as Shane Smeed Prepares to Lead Utah Tech University
Park University is currently going through a significant period of change, as President Shane Smeed prepares to take on a new role as the 19th president of Utah Tech University, effective from August 2025.
Terry Calaway, Ed.D., the chair of Park University's Board of Trustees, has wished President Smeed success in his new opportunity. In a letter to the Park community, Calaway expressed gratitude for Shane Smeed's leadership and service at Park University.
The decision to transition President Smeed to Utah Tech University is part of a series of strategic initiatives at Park University. The comprehensive strategic planning process, Vision 2030, is actively being advanced by key institutional leaders. The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees has made President Smeed's transition the primary agenda item of its March 6 meeting.
In addition to the leadership transition, Park University is also strengthening shared governance under the Shared Governance Commission. The Park University Student Success and Enrolment Growth Plan remains an ongoing initiative.
Utah Tech University, where President Smeed will be taking up his new role, is located in St. George, Utah. No start date has been determined for his tenure at Utah Tech, but according to search results, he is already listed as President of Utah Tech University as of August 1, 2025.
