UAE Champions Coexistence and AI in Religion at GCC Ministerial Meeting
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is championing coexistence and moral values through progressive legislation and initiatives aimed at preparing religious leaders for contemporary challenges. This was the key message delivered by Dr. Omar Habtour Al Darei, Chairman of the UAE's General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat, at the 11th Ministerial Meeting of Officials Responsible for Islamic Affairs and Endowments in GCC countries.
The UAE, a pioneer in embracing technology, sees artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to advance humanity, nations, and religion. It launched the 'Unified Sermon' initiative three decades ago, setting the stage for its innovative and unified religious approach. At the Kuwait meeting, Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Darei from the UAE called for a balanced and careful approach to AI, reflecting the country's commitment to aligning technological progress with ethical and spiritual development.
The meeting addressed crucial issues affecting Gulf societies, including evolving family dynamics, shifting generational values, intellectual security, responsible AI use, and environmental conservation. The UAE's experience in integrating technology within religious and social frameworks, such as using AI in sermons and mosque operations, was highlighted.
