Trinity College Leads Irish Universities in Welcoming Over 60 Gazan Students

In a significant humanitarian effort, Trinity College Dublin has spearheaded a group of 11 Irish universities in supporting Gazan students. The initiative, led by the Irish charity Education for Peace in Palestine, has resulted in over 60 students from Gaza enrolling in Irish institutions this autumn.

The academic year is now underway, and these students are receiving comprehensive support to integrate and succeed in their studies. The universities have waived tuition fees and secured additional funding from independent sources to aid their academic pursuits.

The evacuation operation was a complex diplomatic effort led by Trinity College. It involved securing permission for the students to leave Gaza and transit through Israel, Jordan, and Turkey. The Department of Foreign Affairs played a crucial role, facilitating the students' travel by bus from Gaza to Dublin via Amman and Istanbul. Upon arrival, the students underwent medical assessments before joining their host universities.

Over 60 Gazan students are now studying in Ireland, making it a leader among European countries in student rescue efforts. The PIE Live Ireland event at UCD on 14 October 2025 will discuss this successful operation and its implications for future student support.
