Three Philippine Schools Damaged After 6.9 Quake; Relocations Considered

Following a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on September 30, 2025, three schools in Antique, Philippines, have reported damage. The Department of Education-Antique (DepEd-Antique) is conducting inspections and may recommend relocations due to landslide-prone areas.

DepEd-Antique engineer Rex Galero confirmed cracks in classrooms at Imparayan Elementary School, Sibalom Central School, and Cuyapiao Elementary School. Affected classrooms were temporarily vacated, and classes transferred to other available rooms. The team plans to finish inspecting the 19 schools with reported damage in the province by the end of the following week.

An inspection of Danawan Elementary School in Tobias Fornier is planned for October 6, 2025. The school may need to be relocated due to its landslide-prone area. The Department of Public Works and Highways and the municipal engineer are invited to join the inspection.

Recommendations for retrofitting or repair of the damaged schools will be sent to the DepEd central office after the inspections. The safety of students and teachers is the top priority, and the department is working diligently to address the situation.
