Neuwied's House of Youth Rights Addresses Challenges and Plans Preventative Measures
In a strategic meeting held recently, the House of Youth Rights in Neuwied, Germany, brought together local authorities and youth services to discuss the challenges facing the people and plan preventative measures.
The House of Youth Rights, a collaborative effort between the Neuwied Police Directorate, Koblenz Public Prosecutor's Office, and Neuwied Youth Office, was established in April 2023. Its primary focus is on quick and clear responses to the people in need, operating from a single location in Neuwied.
The meeting addressed two main challenges: school refusal and safety issues related to e-scooters. Mayors Peter Jung and Thorsten Runkel, Matthias Päsel (head of Neuwied Police Inspectorate), Harald Schwer (deputy head of the Social Services Youth Office), and Martina Staudt (Social Services/House of Youth Rights) were present to discuss these issues and the future direction of the association.
The House of Youth Rights stands for shared responsibility, effective prevention, and concrete support in difficult life situations. The group aims to prevent repeated offenses and enable a life free from crime. Prevention, for them, means not letting problems grow in the first place.
In a forward-thinking move, the House of Youth Rights plans to promote child and youth rights through projects led by the people themselves. These projects aim to foster justice, feminism, peace, climate protection, and protect against violence, discrimination, and racism. Concrete plans include supporting self-planned projects by the people aged 14 to 27 with initial funding of 500 euros, expandable to 1,000 euros, to implement these initiatives and raise public awareness of children’s rights violations.
The common goal is to reach the people before issues arise, whether in school or on the road. The House of Youth Rights aims to address the people after their first offenses and provide a path out of crisis.
The meeting concluded with discussions on the strategies and concrete approaches for prevention projects. The House of Youth Rights in Neuwied continues to strive towards its mission of addressing the people early and preventing issues from arising, ensuring a brighter future for the city's youth.
