Seminary Bexley Seabury appoints Mark C. Lee as its new leader
New President Appointed at Bexley Seabury Seminary
Rev. Dr. Mark C. Lee has been appointed as the new President of Bexley Seabury Seminary, effective immediately. Lee, who currently serves as Dean of the Graduate School at the U.S. Army Institute for Religious Leadership, will begin his new role at the seminary with a commitment to fostering a culture of rigorous exploration and active engagement with the Gospel.
Lee's leadership style has been affirmed by colleagues who affectionately call him "Chaplain" rather than "Colonel," a direct reflection of his pastoral approach. He oversees four academic schools, three Clinical Pastoral Education centers, two family life centers, and all academic degrees and individual courses at the U.S. Army Institute for Religious Leadership.
Jason Fout, Interim President, Academic Dean, and Associate Professor of Theology and Mission at Bexley Seabury Seminary, stated that Lee's education serves ministry, and that they learn in order to get to know Jesus better, to love their neighbor better, and respond to the world's cries better.
Lee holds multiple advanced degrees, including a PhD from the University of Aberdeen, a Doctor of Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary, an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary, an MBA and BS from the University of Southern California. His scholarly work on posttraumatic growth, moral injury, and trauma-informed ministry is published in both academic and pastoral contexts.
Bexley Seabury Seminary aims to empower both lay and ordained leaders. It offers nonresidential programs grounded in the rich Anglican spiritual and intellectual tradition. The seminary is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools and has offices based in Chicago, Illinois, serving a nationwide community of students, faculty, and staff.
Rev. Anna Sutterisch, the Chair of the Search Committee and a Board Member at Bexley Seabury Seminary, commented on the appointment of Mark C. Lee as the new president, highlighting his spiritual depth, academic maturity, and pastoral leadership qualities. She described him as curious, conversational, administratively gifted, and deeply grounded.
Lee will lead a team of faculty and staff across six locations nationwide. His formal installation will coincide with commencement next Spring. For more information about Bexley Seabury's programs, visit www.bexleyseabury.edu.
