Bishop Pontien Ribakare: A Leading Figure in the Anglican Diocese of Rutana

Bishop Pontien Ribakare, the Bishop of the Diocese of Rutana in Burundi, Central-East Africa, has demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning and development throughout his career. His focus on African and global Anglican events, as well as his involvement in various conferences and workshops, spans over a decade, from 2008 to 2019.

Bishop Pontien's educational background is impressive. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Divinity from the Uganda Christian University, Mukono, Uganda, and a Master's Degree in Organisational Leadership and Governance from the Bujumbura International Leadership University, Burundi.

His leadership training is evident in his roles and achievements. From 2008 to 2009, he was part of the Church and Community Mobilisation Process in Rwanda. In 2017, he led the creation and establishment of the Diocese of Rutana within the Anglican province of Burundi. His role as Chairman of the Board of the Bujumbura Christian University and Chairman of the General Assembly of the Burundi Mission Alliance further underscores his dedication to educational initiatives.

Bishop Pontien's conference attendance has covered a broad spectrum of topics, including leadership, finance, governance, and community mobilization. Notable events he has participated in include the Transformational Leadership conference in Rwanda in 2019, the Christian Leadership and Sustainable Development conference in South Africa in 2011, and the Financial Sustainability conference in Nairobi, Kenya in 2019.

In addition to his work within Burundi, Bishop Pontien has served as a member of the Anglican Consultative Council within the Anglican Communion. He has also ventured overseas, such as his recent visit to Durham as a Visiting Fellow from 15 April to 5 June.

Bishop Pontien's experience in mission and ministry spans over 8 years as Archdeacon of Rutana. His work has been focused on the training and equipping of local leadership and the holistic development of the region. Topics such as the Role of a Bishop and Governance and Human Resources have been subjects of his discussion at conferences in Canterbury, UK and Zambia, respectively, in 2018.
