Revised Curriculum for Grade 11 Across All Schools - Education Ministry Initiative, Starting This Academic Year

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has rolled out a new curriculum for Class 11 in schools nationwide, a move that has sparked both support and dissent among educational institutions and associations.

Under the new curriculum, students will be required to study a Compulsory Nepali Book and Compulsory English Book, alongside the existing compulsory subjects of Nepali, English, and Social Studies. The new curriculum also includes a syllabus for all subjects and emphasises the importance of Life Skills Education.

The new curriculum for Class 11 and 12 has been prepared by the Curriculum Development Center and the Nepal Education Board (NEB) has published it. A notice about the new curriculum has been issued, and a printable copy of the syllabus is set for publication.

However, the Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools' Association Nepal (HISSAN) and others have expressed their disagreement with the new curriculum. Some schools are reportedly planning to teach according to the old curriculum for Class 11 and 12, a move that has raised concerns about the consistency of the educational experience.

The "National Education Policy 2076" emphasises the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in education, but lacks specific guidelines for integrating modern subjects like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. This has led to a slow implementation due to resource constraints, presenting a challenge in modernising Nepal's educational system.

Teacher orientation is part of the implementation of the new curriculum, ensuring that educators are well-equipped to deliver the new content effectively. The students will be assessed according to the new curriculum, and a list of school names, addresses, and code numbers has been included in the new curriculum for Class 11 and 12.

As the new academic year begins, the implementation of the new curriculum will be closely monitored by the ministry. For more detailed information about any new curriculum changes, it would be advisable to consult official sources from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in Nepal.

  1. Some IT schools might consider incorporating artificial intelligence and cybersecurity into their MBA programs to align with the National Education Policy 2076's emphasis on information and communication technology (ICT) in education.
  2. The notice about the new curriculum for Class 11 and 12 also includes a list of school names, addresses, and code numbers, which can be found in the printable copy of the syllabus.
  3. As educators prepare for the teacher orientation related to the new curriculum, they may find resources on education-and-self-development platforms or general news websites for guidance on integrating Life Skills Education and other modern subjects into their teaching practices.
