Herford District Launches Glow Warning Vest Action for Mobility Week

The Herford district in Germany is encouraging children to make their everyday journeys to kindergarten safer and more environmentally friendly. As part of the European Mobility Week, the district has been organising the glow warning vest action since 2017.

Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen, from the Mobility Management of the Herford district, expresses positivity about the response to the action. This year, around 1,500 signal warning vests will be distributed to all 3-year-olds in the over 130 kindergartens in the district. The vests, which bear the district's climate protection logo, are intended to improve traffic safety.

Kindergartens that pick up their vests are promoting the independence and safety of children in road traffic, and contributing to the mobility transition. Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen is happy about every further institution that joins in, and values and encourages the participation of kindergartens in the action.

The district delivers the vests to the town halls of the cities and municipalities for the institutions to pick up. The Mobility Management of the Herford district is open to suggestions and initiatives from kindergartens for Mobility Week. Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen does not impose limits on the creativity of kindergartens in their actions for Mobility Week.

The permanent action in the district is titled "Walking to kindergarten". The Herford district encourages small pedestrians and their parents to walk to kindergarten together, even in the dark season. Making everyday journeys by car is not made a matter of course for children in the Herford district.
