The Goetheschule in Neu-Isenburg has been taking its eleventh graders on study trips to Auschwitz since 2018, as part of its remembrance culture. This educational journey offers a unique opportunity to confront the crimes of the National Socialists and learn from history.

This year, the current study trip was supervised by teachers Michael Langhans and Michaela Schmitt. The students' experiences from this journey have been transformed into the annual exhibition "Children in Auschwitz," which was displayed at the town hall on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The exhibition, created by the students after intensive preparation, aims to give the victims of fascist crimes names and personal stories. It showcases photos and impressions from the last study trip to Auschwitz in July 2024.

Dr. Matthias Köberle, head of department at the Goetheschule Neu-Isenburg, has been a central companion and supporter of this project from its beginning. His outstanding commitment to remembrance culture and historical education was recognised when he received the Hugenottenmedaille from Mayor Dirk Gene Hagelstein at the opening of the exhibition.

The Hugenottenmedaille is an honour bestowed by the city of Neu-Isenburg for significant contributions to the community. Since 2020, the project "Remembering and Commemorating" has undergone continuous further development under Dr. Köberle's guidance.

While specific details about Dr. Köberle's significant contributions to the "Remembering and Commemorating" project are not readily available, his dedication to the cause is evident in the school's ongoing commitment to educational trips to Auschwitz and the creation of the "Children in Auschwitz" exhibition.

Each year, the exhibition serves as a poignant reminder of the past, offering a chance for the community to honour the victims of the Holocaust and learn from history. The Goetheschule's dedication to this cause continues to make a significant impact in Neu-Isenburg and beyond.
