Rebecca Lafferty's Memoir 'The Lafferty Girl' Tells Story of Abuse, Forgiveness, and Healing
Rebecca Lafferty, daughter of convicted murderer Dan Lafferty, is sharing her story of abuse, forgiveness, and healing in her new memoir, 'The Lafferty Girl'. The book details her journey from a childhood marked by her father's brutal actions to her current life in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Rebecca's father, Dan Lafferty, is serving two life sentences for the 1984 murders of his sister-in-law, Brenda Lafferty, and her 15-month-old daughter, Erica. Dan believed it was 'God's will' to 'kill her spirit' during Rebecca's childhood, subjecting her to physical and emotional action from an early age. Rebecca felt ostracized and pushed out due to her father's actions, affecting her relationships and self-worth.
In 2006, Rebecca visited her father in prison, marking the beginning of a process of accountability and forgiveness. This led to her path of healing, which she details in her memoir. Her uncle, Ron Lafferty, who helped carry out the murders, was sentenced to death and died in prison in 2019.
Rebecca Lafferty's memoir, 'The Lafferty Girl,' offers a glimpse into her journey of survival, forgiveness, and healing. Despite her father's ongoing imprisonment, Rebecca has found a way to move forward, living in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her story serves as a testament to the human capacity for forgiveness and resilience.
