PV Industry Set for Major Shift as New Standard DIN 18199 Unveiled at PSE Conference
The ninth Planning, Operations, and Safety Conference (PSE) is set to take place in Berlin this October, where a significant development in the photovoltaic (PV) industry will be unveiled. The conference will introduce the draft of the new standard, DIN 18199, which has been in progress for about two years. This standard aims to enhance fire protection and address aerodynamic systems for the first time, among other changes.
The two-day conference, organized by Ralf Haselhuhn, will cover a wide range of topics. It will delve into the latest guidelines from the Federal Office for Road Traffic in Leipzig regarding glare assessments in PV system planning. Additionally, sessions will explore battery storage design and safety, as well as the impact of the EEG and Solar Spitzenregelung on the industry.
The new standard, once presented, will take approximately a year to come into effect, followed by a transition period of at least three years. It will apply to all roof and facade installations, including single-family homes. Notably, it will require expert inspection of existing roofs before installing PV systems to prevent damage.
The ninth PSE conference, taking place on October 16 and 17, is set to be a pivotal moment for the PV industry. The introduction of DIN 18199 promises to bring about significant changes in PV system installation, with a focus on fire protection and aerodynamic systems. The standard, once in effect, will impact all PV installations, from single-family homes to larger-scale projects.
