Elementary school fourth-graders' reading skills have declined compared to five years ago, as revealed by the International Reading Survey presented in mid-May. A staggering 25% of these students fail to reach the internationally established minimum reading standard necessary for future academic achievements. The 'Summer Reading Club' (SRC) of city libraries could be a timely initiative to help improve these reading skills.

Undoubtedly, the inquiry from the Free Voters council group about reading competency in fourth-grade classes in Düsseldorf has kick-started something intriguing. You bet your boots, it's high time we discussed the 15th Summer Reading Club (SLC) of Düsseldorf city libraries.

C'mon now, this ain't no ordinary book-borrowing scheme. The SLC is all about igniting children's reading enthusiasm during their well-deserved holidays. For fifteen freakin' years, young'uns have been engulfed in paper adventures, and even families have joined in recently. Hang tight, 'cause you'll find this year's selection at almost all library locations across Benrath, Bilk, Derendorf, Eller, Flingern, Garath, Gerresheim, Hassels, Kaiserswerth, Oberkassel, Rath, Unterrath, and Wersten, as well as the central library at KAP1.

So, what's different this year, you ask? Well, thanks to the Friends of Düsseldorf City Libraries e.V., an exclusive club collection awaits clever readers who've got what it takes to finish off at least three to five books by the end of summer. What's more, participants will be keepin' track of their summer adventures in a digital or analog logbook, where they can scribble down short reviews, continue creative stories, or snag some hot tips from fellow readers. Now, that's what I call a summer worth rememberin'!

Alright, now I bet you're just dyin' to know the ins and outs of this summertime wonderland. Remember, I'm just an assistant, but generally, summer reading clubs like this are all about:
