Police Academy serves as a training ground for Matthias Zeiser's future endeavors
Matthias Zeiser, a seasoned veteran in the field of law enforcement, has embarked on a new challenge as the president of the University of the Police Baden-Württemberg. With a rich background that includes stints at the police headquarters in Freiburg and the German University of the Police in Münster, Zeiser is well-equipped to lead the diverse institution.
The University of the Police Baden-Württemberg is a comprehensive entity that encompasses academic education, training, deployment and leadership training, international deployments, and personnel recruitment. Spread across eight locations, the university provides a conducive environment for students to learn not only from police officers but also from psychologists and other experts.
Zeiser's tenure has been marked by a focus on digitization, deployment training, and further training to keep colleagues fit for practical work. He is currently considering the introduction of the e-file and the handling of artificial intelligence, reflecting his commitment to modernizing the police force.
The president's job is multifaceted, with a wide range of topics. Zeiser prioritizes transmitting values to young people, a crucial task he believes is integral to the university's mission. He derives joy from working with young people, students, and trainees, and finds comfort in the teamwork aspect of the police.
One of the most challenging aspects of the job, according to Zeiser, is delivering the news of a loved one's death to their family. He emphasizes the importance of feedback and learning from mistakes in training and practical work, ensuring that the university continually improves and evolves.
Zeiser began his career at the Federal Criminal Police Office and has had notable experiences, such as becoming the section leader for public relations at the NATO summit in 2009 in Baden-Baden, Kehl, and Strasbourg. His previous experience in Münster contrasts with his hometown of Villingen-Schwenningen, but he finds solace in the familiarity of his roots.
The graduates of the University of the Police Baden-Württemberg bring new knowledge and impulses into the headquarters and police stations, contributing to the ongoing evolution of the police force. With Zeiser at the helm, the university is poised to continue its mission of educating future leaders in law enforcement.
