Partners and City Initiative Fostering Health in Schools
Starting this new school year, the city of Halle (Saale) is launching an innovative project called "Movement Heroes". The initiative aims to promote physical activity, health, and well-being among children, while also improving their social skills and learning performance.
The project, which is being funded by the city of Halle (Saale) and the GKV Alliance for Health in Saxony-Anhalt, is being implemented at three primary schools: the Free Primary School "Friedemann Bach Halle", the Primary School "Ulrich von Hutten", and the Special School "Christian-Gotthilf-Salzmann".
The "Movement Heroes" project consists of various modules designed to activate breaks with a movement coach, move learning hours, offer play and movement activities on the schoolyard, and conduct internal school competitions. The municipal health department oversees and evaluates the project, while the SV Halle e.V. designs age-appropriate movement offers with sports pedagogical expertise.
To engage the children, the project features interactive stations such as a movement course, health quiz and memory game, creating fruit skewers, and a "Relaxation Island" with stories and fantasy journeys. The "Right to Health" station of the existing "Children's Rights Learning Path" invites children to learn about movement, nutrition, and relaxation in a playful way.
Teachers are trained as part of the project, and parents are actively involved through workshops and family afternoons. The public kick-off for the "Movement Heroes" project will take place on August 15, 2025, from 10 to 12 am at the Cube Field.
The project is supported by several partners, including the accident insurance company of Saxony-Anhalt, the consumer center of Saxony-Anhalt e.V., the USV Halle e.V., the GP Günter Papenburg AG, and dm-drugstore market. The event is also supported by the Children's Rights Office of the city and the SV Halle e.V., and children from nearby kindergartens, families, and all interested citizens are invited to participate.
The "Movement Heroes" project is part of a larger effort by the city of Halle (Saale) and its partners to test new methods for promoting school health. The initiative is a comprehensive one, aiming to permanently integrate movement into daily school life and make a positive impact on school life as a whole.
