First Phase of University Candidature in Portugal Opens with Increased Spots and More Options
The first phase of university candidature for the upcoming academic year in Portugal is now open, offering more opportunities for students than ever before.
According to the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES), a total of 55,956 spots are available through the general access system, which is 643 more than last year. However, this year has seen a decrease in the number of applications, with 10,183 applications received so far, compared to 11,942 last year.
The application process requires submitting online applications via the university’s official platform, including supporting documents like academic transcripts, proof of language proficiency, and possibly recommendation letters. Students will need an access password, which can be requested through the DGES website, to apply.
The deadline for the first phase of university candidature for the upcoming academic year is generally before the academic year starts, likely between June and September. This year, the application deadline falls on August 4th. It's worth noting that the exact cut-off may vary by university and program.
The ENES form, issued by the school, containing final secondary school grade and entrance exam results, is also necessary to apply. Once the results are announced on 24 August, candidates selected in the first phase have until 28 August to enrol.
This year, students can choose from more than 1,100 options at 34 higher education institutions.
