Oral Hygiene in Lörrach County: Spotlight on Powerful Saliva

National Oral Health Day, a nationwide celebration, falls on September 25th. This year, schools across the country are getting involved, and one such school is the Realschule Dreiländereck in Weil am Rhein.

As part of the celebrations, students in grade 6 are participating in a project themed 'Superpower Saliva'. The project, organized by the District Office, aims to educate students about the importance of oral health and the role of saliva in maintaining it.

The Regional Working Group on Oral Health of the District of Lörrach is spearheading the project. They are guiding the students to learn the KAI brushing technique, a method known for its effectiveness in maintaining oral hygiene.

The project also demonstrates the impact of acidic drinks on tooth enamel, highlighting the protective role of saliva in preventing cavities. Saliva, which primarily consists of 99% water, plays a crucial role in swallowing, speaking, and eating, and is a key component in oral health.

In addition, the project sheds light on the potential of saliva tests in detecting diseases. However, further details about the specific diseases or the methodology of these tests were not provided.

Mrs. Simone Busch, the teacher of the class involved in the project, is leading the students through this educational journey. The Regional Working Group on Oral Health of the District of Lörrach is working closely with the school to ensure the project's success.

This initiative is a significant step towards promoting oral health awareness among young students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to maintain good oral health practices.
