In the picture we can see three boys standing near the desk on it, we can see two computer systems towards them and one boy is talking into the microphone and they are in ID cards with red tags to it and behind them we can see a wall with an advertisement board and written on it as Russia imagine 2013.

Only 55% of Schools Quickly Recover from Cyber Threats

Schools face growing cyber threats, with only 55% able to recover quickly from incidents. Ofqual urges enhanced cybersecurity training and protection against malware. Robust measures safeguard educational continuity and students' futures.

In the past academic year, 29% of schools experienced a cybersecurity incident, with 10% suffering critical damage. To combat this, Ofqual recommends key actions such as using strong passwords, enabling Multi-Factor Authentication, updating software regularly, and recognizing and reporting phishing attempts. Protection from malware and regular data backups are crucial defences. Despite the importance, there are no records of schools or colleges in England engaging cybersecurity providers for training in the year 2024-2025. However, the proportion of teachers receiving cybersecurity training has increased to 72%. Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October encourages institutions to adopt these protective practices. Having backups in place ensures students' coursework and vital systems can be restored in case of an attack.

With 29% of schools experiencing cyber incidents and only 55% recovering quickly, robust cybersecurity measures are vital. Ofqual's recommendations, along with increased teacher training and awareness, can protect educational continuity and students' academic futures.
