NITDA Collaborates with Bauchi State to Introduce a Digital Literacy and Competencies Strategy
In a significant stride towards digital transformation, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Bauchi State Government have joined forces to launch the Digital Literacy and Skills Framework (DL4ALL Bauchi Initiative) on August 13, 2025 [1][2]. This new initiative aims to prepare Bauchi citizens for the global digital economy, foster entrepreneurship, and build a digitally literate workforce [1][2].
The DL4ALL Bauchi Initiative is a comprehensive program designed to equip over 100,000 citizens with essential digital skills by 2027, ensuring broad-based digital inclusion and empowering people at all levels [2]. It offers advanced technical training in high-demand areas such as software development, cloud computing, and data analytics to 2,000 selected youths, preparing them for competitive digital jobs [2].
To further integrate digital education into the fabric of Bauchi, the framework plans to embed digital education into school curricula and workforce policies, ensuring even vulnerable communities gain digital skills and opportunities [2]. The initiative also emphasises the creation of productive jobs that help fight poverty, empower youth, and foster entrepreneurship, with a focus on sustainable value creation accessible from anywhere [1][2].
Recognising digital literacy as a fundamental right, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared that digital inclusion is a key pillar of Bauchi State’s development vision to become a hub of innovation in Northern Nigeria [1]. To strengthen digital infrastructure and connectivity in Bauchi, the program aims to better link its population with national and global markets [1][2].
The collaboration between NITDA and the Bauchi State Bureau for ICT and Digital Economy extends to promoting data protection and cybersecurity. Partnerships and policies are being established to ensure compliance in digital governance, including collaboration with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission [2].
The launch event brought together various stakeholders from academia, the public sector, and the private sector, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this initiative. Dr. Ayodeji Eniola, who represented the Director-General of NITDA at the event, reiterated the agency's commitment to achieving a national digital literacy rate of 70% by 2027 and 95% by 2030 [2]. This initiative is part of a broader vision to equip the youth and civil servants with global competitive skills.
With the DL4ALL Bauchi Initiative, Bauchi State is poised to transform, building a digitally literate workforce, supporting innovative entrepreneurship, and integrating its human capital into the fast-growing global digital economy.
