Navigating with Gratitude: A Five-Step Journey
Oscar di Montigny, a writer, speaker, and high-ranking executive at Banca Mediolanum, contends that gratitude can serve as the cornerstone of a novel societal model in his upcoming book, "Gratitude. The Necessary Revolution." Due for release on May 12th by Mondadori, the text proposes a reimagined global development and coexistence framework that emphasizes gratitude.
Di Montigny suggests that a duality exists between the personal and social dimensions, with gratitude acting as the guiding force in both spheres. Identifying our life's purpose as the act of providing direction, he posits that gratitude is the key to enhancing personal growth and contributing to the greater good. According to the author, gratitude is crucial to the wellbeing of ourselves, our organizations, and others, as well as the world at large.
The author further explores the idea that gratitude represents a synthesis of cooperation and competition, which he terms "coopetition." Instead of pitting individuals and entities against one another, coopetition seeks to integrate competition with collaboration to ensure the common interest. In addition, gratitude is understood as being closely linked to the concept of "innovability," where innovation is not pursued for its own sake, but as a means of developing sustainable technologies and practices.
In order to achieve these goals, di Montigny suggests addressing five thematic areas, or the "five Ps," which serve as guiding questions for both public and private sectors. The following list outlines these topics:
- Peace: Focus on increasing awareness of humanity's role on Earth and striving to be responsible, caring members of our communities. Education emerges as the primary tool for cultivating social awareness and addressing inequalities.
This hypothetical societal model, based on the principles of gratitude and coopetition, fosters a cooperative, sustainable, and equitable world by encouraging acts of kindness, fostering strong intracommunity bonds, and promoting local and global cooperation. By emphasizing appreciation, empathy, and mutual support, this framework aims to create a more harmonious and sustainable coexistence, shaped by love and respect for fellow human beings.
Di Montigny postulates that gratitude can foster personal growth and contribute to the greater good, serving as a catalyst for both self-development and education-and-self-development. In his proposed societal model, this realization of gratitude's impact leads to a lifestyle that emphasizes peace, cooperation, and personal growth.
