Ready for a reality check before jumping into the teaching profession? That's the idea behind a new mandatory pre-course for teacher trainees in Thuringia. The Ministry of Education believes this practical and supportive crash course will help new instructors hit the ground running and love their profession from day one. This move comes in response to the ongoing teacher shortage problem in certain areas, according to Christian Tischner, CDU's Minister of Education and former high school teacher.

The primary goal of this pre-course is to equip future teachers with the essential skills for their roles and school duties, focusing on teaching itself. The didactics and pedagogy training, along with school internships, will occur concurrently during this period. This initiative stems from the coalition agreement between CDU, SPD, and BSW.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has also created 50 new positions for teacher trainees and special subject combinations. Thirty-three of these openings have already been advertised, all located in the northern and southern regions of the country. Among them, fifteen positions are in schools with a focus on support, and mathematics is the most sought-after subject at regular and comprehensive schools.

Thriving Teachers, Thriving StudentsIn general, teacher training programs aim to provide trainees with the necessary skills to teach effectively, manage classrooms, and continue their professional development.

Filling the Teacher RanksTo combat teacher shortages, regions like Thuringia employ various strategies, such as accelerated training programs, incentives for recruitment, professional development opportunities, and collaborations with local universities.

While the details about a mandatory crash course in Thuringia remain scarce, initiatives like these could be part of a broader plan to address the teacher shortage problem.

The community policy implemented by the Ministry of Education in Thuringia includes a mandatory crash course for new teacher trainees, focusing on vocational training that encompasses essential skills for teaching, didactics, pedagogy, and classroom management. This initiative is tied to the education-and-self-development sector, as it strives to empower teachers for successful careers and, in turn, contribute to the general-news agenda of ensuring quality education for all students. Additionally, the Thuringian government has created new positions for teacher trainees to fill the shortage gaps in certain areas, with a particular emphasis on support schools and the mathematics vocational training sector.
