Lünen's Elisabethschule Implements 'Temporary School Street' for Safer Drop-offs

In Lünen, a new safety measure has been implemented at Elisabethschule in Lünen-Brambauer. A 'temporary school street' has been established on 'Zum Karrenbusch 6', with a driving ban for motor vehicles during school arrival and departure times.

The driving ban is in effect from 07:15 to 08:15 and from 15:00 to 16:00, excluding holidays. Exceptions are made for emergency vehicles and residents living within the restricted area. This initiative aims to enhance children's safety and promote traffic competence. Jolanta Bialas, head of the Traffic Department, encourages parents and relatives to use parent stops instead of cars for drop-offs and pick-ups.

A joint press conference was held on September 18 to discuss the implementation of this 'temporary school street'. The goal is to eliminate traffic, parked vehicles, dangerous turning maneuvers, and restricted visibility, creating a safer environment for children. Police officers have been carrying out targeted checks and engaging with parents to sensitize them to the dangers of 'parent taxis'. They are also taking repressive measures for detected traffic violations.

Lünen has been selected for a pilot project to implement concrete measures, including this 'temporary school street'. This year's European Mobility Week focuses on school mobility management, aiming to promote independent mobility of children and young people on their school routes.
