Bukidnon State University Faculty Member Wins Top Award for Campus Safety Venture
John Lloyd Rojo, a faculty member at Bukidnon State University's College of Technologies – Information Technology Department, has been named the Top 1 Outstanding Venture Awardee at the WEN Ignite Program held from June 10-19, 2025. His venture, BXSafety, focuses on enhancing campus safety through technology and entrepreneurial principles.
BXSafety was developed by Rojo during the WEN Ignite Program and was recognized for its scalability, social impact, and local relevance. The venture aims to provide practical solutions to safety challenges within the university environment, empowering students to develop both technical and technopreneurial skills.
The WEN Ignite Program, held by the Bukidnon State University Foundation, aims to incorporate entrepreneurship into classroom instruction. It trains educators in innovation, startup thinking, and venture-based teaching, with the goal of helping students build practical skills and cultivate a technopreneurship mindset.
In addition to Rojo, 47 faculty members from across the country were honoured as part of the program. Dr. Regie C. Medidas and Samantha O. Vega, also from Bukidnon State University, earned Applied Proficiency in Entrepreneurship Education. Jona Celle Bustamante, a College of Business instructor from Bukidnon State University, was also recognized as a Fully Certified Entrepreneurship Educator.
Rojo views himself not just as a faculty member, but also as a lifelong learner. He emphasized the importance of integrating technology and entrepreneurship in teaching, particularly for BSIT and BSEMC-DAT students. He stated his intention to incorporate more innovative, real-world approaches into teaching, hoping to empower students to one day launch their own startups.
Rojo was also certified as a Fully Certified Entrepreneurship Educator during the same program. He expressed feeling good about his recognition and being motivated to continue improving.
With BXSafety, Rojo's venture is making a significant impact on campus safety, demonstrating the potential for technology and entrepreneurship to create practical solutions to real-world problems. The venture's recognition as the Top Outstanding Venture Awardee underscores the importance of fostering entrepreneurial mindsets in education and the potential for technology to enhance safety within university communities.
