IT Faculty Members Emerged as Winners in Our Foundation's Venture Awards

John Lloyd Rojo, a faculty member at Bukidnon State University's (BSU) College of Technologies – Information Technology Department, has been recognised as the Top 1 Outstanding Venture Awardee by the Wadhwani Foundation. His winning project, BXSafety, has been commended for its scalability, social impact, and local relevance in addressing campus safety concerns.

BXSafety is a venture designed to enhance safety within educational environments. Its unique approach emphasises expansion potential (scalability), allowing it to be adapted and implemented beyond its initial setting while effectively addressing social issues related to safety. The project is also tailored to meet the needs of the local community, ensuring practical relevance and impact in the specific area it serves.

Rojo's achievement is a testament to his commitment to applying technological expertise to social challenges. His recognition by the Wadhwani Foundation highlights the project's innovative approach and potential for meaningful community benefit through improved campus security systems.

The WEN Ignite Program, held from June 10 to 19, 2025, honoured Rojo and other educators who completed the Foundation's Faculty Development Program. The program aims to incorporate entrepreneurship into classroom instruction, with 47 faculty members from across the country participating.

In addition to Rojo, other BSU faculty members were also recognised. Dr. Regie C. Medidas and Samantha O. Vega, from the College of Business at BSU, both earned Applied Proficiency in Entrepreneurship Education. Jona Celle Bustamante, a College of Business instructor at BSU, was recognised as a Fully Certified Entrepreneurship Educator.

Rojo, expressing his feelings about the recognition, stated that he feels good about the award and is motivated to continue improving. He also considers himself not just as a faculty member, but also as a lifelong learner.

In light of this recognition, Rojo expressed a desire to integrate more innovative, real-world approaches into his teaching, specifically for BSIT and BSEMC-DAT students. This commitment to continuous learning and innovation is a shining example for other educators at BSU and beyond.
