Israeli Forces Intercept 'Sumud' Flotilla in Gaza Blockade Showdown
Israeli forces have intercepted the 'Sumud' flotilla, a group of vessels attempting to break the Gaza blockade. The interception occurred after warnings from the Israeli military and involved the surrounding and boarding of at least one ship, the Alma. The flotilla, comprising representatives from 44 countries, had broadcast its peaceful intentions over radio, stating it was a humanitarian mission in line with international law. Activists had prepared for intervention in international waters, wearing life jackets and gathering on deck. Earlier, Türkiye's Ministry of National Defense had evacuated 11 people from the flotilla. Turkish naval forces, along with the Italian Navy sending the multipurpose frigate 'Fasan', had rescued these individuals prior to the Israeli interception. This action was reportedly in response to threats such as drone attacks near Greece. The Israeli military detained crew members from the Global Sumud Flotilla after intercepting and boarding at least one of its vessels. The flotilla's mission and the circumstances surrounding the interception remain under international scrutiny.
