India's Global Aviation Leadership and Elder Care Commitment Spotlighted

India's leadership in global aviation and commitment to senior citizens' well-being took centre stage recently. At the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, India was re-elected to Part II of the Council, reflecting growing confidence in its aviation sector. Meanwhile, the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE) is set to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons in New Delhi, highlighting India's dedication to ageing with dignity.

The re-election to ICAO's Council marks a significant achievement for India. Securing more votes than in the 2022 elections demonstrates the international community's trust in India's leadership and aviation sector growth. Although the identity of the Indian representative at the assembly remains unclear, India's presence underscores its commitment to global aviation governance.

In a separate development, the DoSJE will host celebrations for the International Day of Older Persons. This event aligns with the theme 'Ageing with Dignity', promoting a dignified and enabling ecosystem for senior citizens based on the principles of 'Ageing in Place' and 'Ageing with Dignity'.

Earlier this year, India signed the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). This agreement, set to come into effect on 1 October 2025, includes a binding commitment on investment and job creation, further boosting India's trade diplomacy.

India's re-election to ICAO's Council and its commitment to celebrating the International Day of Older Persons reflect its growing influence on the global stage and dedication to improving the lives of its senior citizens. The upcoming implementation of the India-EFTA TEPA is also expected to bring significant economic benefits and job creation.
