Increased School-Related Accidents Worry Police Chief in PP Ravensburg - He Urges Caution Among Road Users to Ensure Safety
The Police Headquarters in Ravensburg has issued a call for extra caution and consideration on roads as the new school year begins, following a significant increase in school route accidents. According to the Police President, Uwe Stürmer, the number of recorded accidents in the first seven months of 2025 has risen from 24 to 42, causing concern among authorities.
In response, the police will increase their presence on school routes and conduct appropriate checks. The police headquarters covers the districts of Ravensburg, Sigmaringen, and Bodenseekreis.
The causes of these accidents are varied, including improper use of pedestrian and cycle paths, incorrect entry into flowing traffic, distraction, failure to yield right of way, and speeding. The majority of those injured were children under the age of 14, with more than half of the injured being cyclists. A total of 46 people were injured in these accidents, one of whom was seriously injured.
To help combat these issues, the police are promoting road safety education to ensure students are well-prepared for their school journey. If a child is cycling independently, it is crucial to ensure the bicycle is equipped with proper lighting and other safety features, and to wear visible clothing with reflective elements. This will help to ensure the safety of our young students as they navigate their school routes.
