In the heart of Kassel, a unique initiative is making a significant impact - the Professional Mentors project. This initiative, run by the non-profit Arbeitsförderungsgesellschaft im our organisation mbH, has been active since 2008, with a mission to pass on professional knowledge and life experience to support young people in their search for training places and jobs.

Two seasoned professionals, Bernhard Boss and Ernst Blömeke, are Carina Wetekam's mentors for her upcoming job interview. Both have decades of professional experience under their belts, ready to guide Carina through this important step. Carina, a 10th-grader at Gustav-Heinemann-Realschule, is one of the 21 young people currently being accompanied by mentors in the "Tandems for a Time" project.

The project is seeking more life- and work-experienced volunteers from the city and the organization. The mentors help with career orientation, writing job applications, finding internships and training places, and preparing for job interviews. They are integrated into a well-organized and professionally supervised network, and receive compensation for their expenses.

This year, two young people who were accompanied by professional mentors throughout their training have completed their training as IT business management assistants and housekeeping specialists. One young man has even gone on to study. The mentoring often continues even after the start of training.

In addition to supporting German youth, the project also offers assistance to young people with migration or refugee backgrounds in their transition from school to work. Job application training is one aspect of the project's comprehensive support.

The Professional Mentors project offers regular meetings for experience exchange, Stammtische, and further training to support volunteers. Interested parties can contact coordinator Brigitte Vogler at Tel.: 0561-1003 1275 or Email: [email protected].

The project is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration, and operates in seven general and vocational schools, where the professional mentors offer job interview training. Today, Carina Wetekam is putting her training to the test with her first job interview, with Bernhard Boss and Ernst Blömeke playing the role of the employer, observing her demeanor, her understanding of the future employer, and the job profile.
