Harvard Considering Expulsion of Princess Elizabeth of Belgium Due to Trump Allegations
Harvard's Foreign Student Ban Affects Princess Elisabeth of Belgium
The future Queen of Belgium, Princess Elisabeth, is facing uncertainty over her academic future at Harvard University following a decision by the Trump administration. The university's authorization to accept foreign students has been revoked, citing concerns about promoting violence and antisemitism.
Princess Elisabeth, who is currently enrolled in a two-year master's program in public policy at the Kennedy School of Government, has just completed her first year. Despite her current visa remaining valid, she and other international students at Harvard are in a state of legal uncertainty. The university is unable to confirm their compliance with visa requirements under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) framework, which could potentially lead to deportation issues.
The Belgian royal palace is closely monitoring the situation, preparing to react if needed. The exact implications for Princess Elisabeth's studies have not yet been specified. The administration accuses Harvard of failing to comply with requests for student information, and of potentially allowing "anti-American and pro-terrorist agitators to attack Jewish students."
The uncertainty surrounding international students' ability to continue their studies at other U.S. universities also remains, as other institutions could face similar actions. Harvard's master's program for non-U.S. students currently hosts more than 7,000 students, all of whom are now in limbo. A federal judge has temporarily blocked the measure while the complaint filed by the university is considered.
After obtaining her baccalaureate in Wales in 2020, Princess Elisabeth, who is also the Duchess of Brabant, studied for a year at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels before moving to the United Kingdom to study history and political science at Lincoln College, Oxford University. She enrolled at Harvard in September 2024.
