Greetings to the 2024 Cohort of Centennial Scholars! You've Been Welcomed!
The North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF) has announced the recipients of the 2024 Centennial Scholarship at the Wilson College of Textiles, NC State. Established in 1999 as part of the college's Centennial Celebration, the Centennial Scholarship awards each student a minimum of $15,000 per year for four years.
Fifty-four incoming first-year students have been selected to receive the scholarship. The recipients must major in one of the college's five unique degree programs in either the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management (TATM) or the Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science (TECS). Scholarship applicants are evaluated based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, and unique life experiences.
In addition to the scholarship, recipients receive $7,500 in enrichment funds that can be used for study abroad, leadership programs, career explorations, or other approved enrichment activities. This year's scholars have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their pursuits, with each student showing a commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
The Wilson College of Textiles is proud to have the largest per-student college-based scholarship program at NC State. Prospective students can learn more about the Centennial Scholarship and other scholarship opportunities on the college's website.
One of the scholarship recipients, Logan Adkins, is from Wilson, North Carolina. Adkins was awarded the Dunlap-Floopy/Beaunit Centennial Scholarship and plans to study Fashion and Textile Management with a concentration in brand management and marketing. Adkins' passion for the apparel and textile industry, combined with her strong business skills, led her to choose this major.
As a STEP attendee, Adkins had an informative week where she learned about business management in the fashion and textile industry. She was inspired by the collaborative community of creative scholars she met during the program. Coming from a rural area where fashion was not highly appreciated, Adkins found a supportive network of peers with similar passions at the Wilson College of Textiles.
Another scholarship recipient, Lilly Barozzini, is from Glen Gardner, New Jersey and now lives in Holly Springs, North Carolina. Barozzini received the American & Efird Centennial Scholarship and plans to study Fashion and Textile Design. Barozzini is excited to join a community of passionate individuals who share her love for design and fashion.
Barozzini discovered the Wilson College of Textiles through the college's website and attended the Polymer Camp and the Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) to learn about the opportunities offered. After STEP, Barozzini knew she wanted to be part of the tight-knit community at the Wilson College of Textiles. The Fashion and Textile Design curriculum will help Barozzini expand her knowledge in fashion design, sustainability, textiles, and technology in the fashion industry.
scholarship recipient Karina Bhatia plans to study Textile Technology with a concentration in medical textiles. Bhatia was drawn to the major because of the interdisciplinary nature of the field and the emphasis on preparing students for industry and promoting community. Bhatia has a dream of using her technical and creative skills in medicine to make a direct positive impact on humanity.
Ashley Lamb, another scholarship recipient, is pursuing a degree in Polymer and Color Chemistry, fueled by her interest in its application in the medical, health, and research fields. Lamb hopes to use her knowledge and experience to make a difference in many lives.
The Centennial Scholarship offers these students not only financial support but also valuable networking and leadership opportunities. The scholarship's recognition and investment in these talented students will inspire them to work hard and make a positive impact on the Wilson College of Textiles and the textiles industry as a whole.
