UAE Government Grants Flexible Work Hours for Parents on First Day of School

Starting from August 25, 2025, the UAE government has announced flexible work hours for its employees with school-going children. This initiative is part of the annual "Back to School" initiative by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, aimed at supporting parents while maintaining workflow and service delivery.

On the first day of the Academic Year 2025-2026, government employees can enjoy up to three hours of flexible work hours, allowing them to accompany their children to and from school. This flexibility applies to both arrival and departure times, with approval from their direct managers.

Employees with children in nursery and kindergarten are entitled to similar flexible timings for a full week starting from the first school day. This is to help parents and children adjust to the new pick-up and drop-off schedules.

Throughout the academic year, government employees can also take up to three hours off to attend parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies, and other school-related events.

This policy is designed to accommodate varying school start dates according to the curriculum. It's worth noting that the total duration of this flexibility for government employees shall not exceed three hours on the first day of school.

Some private sector employers have also adopted similar measures on school reopening days, demonstrating a collective commitment to supporting working parents.
