Google Launches Gemini App with Tutorial Learning and Graphic Study Resources for Pupils
Google's expanded Gemini app is set to revolutionise student learning and exam preparation, making study and problem-solving more interactive, personalised, and efficient.
The new features aim to make Gemini a deeply supportive AI study partner that caters to multiple senses through visual interaction, adapts to individual study needs, aids complex problem-solving, and offers personalised learning tools.
Key new features include:
- Visual guidance with camera sharing: Students can share their camera view with Gemini, which not only sees what they see but also provides real-time visual cues by highlighting relevant parts of the screen. This feature is particularly useful for learning by solving problems together, such as identifying the right tool or highlighting answers visually on study materials.
- Practice quizzes and flashcards: The app lets students create practice quizzes and flashcards from their notes to study more effectively and prepare for exams by reinforcing learning through active recall. Incorrect quiz responses can be converted into customised flashcards for additional review.
- Guided Learning for complex topics: Gemini now supports deeper understanding of difficult subjects by offering guided walkthroughs, helping students break down and grasp complex concepts.
- Organising study guides and writing help: Students can get assistance in structuring their study materials and fine-tuning their writing for assignments, improving clarity and effectiveness in academic work.
- Temporary Chats: Allows students to have conversations with the AI that are not saved or used to influence future responses, offering privacy for certain study topics or questions.
- Deep Think mode (for Ultra subscribers): Provides improved reasoning capabilities to tackle highly complex problems, especially in math and coding, offering advanced assistance beyond general queries.
- Faster and stronger AI model (Gemini 2.0 Flash and 2.5 Flash): These upgrades deliver quicker responses and better performance for brainstorming, learning, writing, and reasoning tasks important for exam preparation and study.
- Integration with Google apps and expanded context awareness: Gemini can connect with files and apps, leveraging extensive context (up to 1 million tokens) to handle large amounts of study data, code repositories, or documents, streamlining workflows for students working on projects or coding assignments.
- Visual and conversational photo editing tools: Although more relevant for creativity, these tools can help students create better presentations or visual materials for assignments.
Eligibility for the free one-year AI Pro subscription begins for those aged 18 or older who verify their enrollment. The offer is available to students in the United States, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and Brazil. The subscription includes access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Research, NotebookLM, Veo 3, Jules, and 2 TB of cloud storage.
Google has also announced a $1 billion investment in its AI for Education Accelerator program, pledging to fund AI training, career certifications, and ethical research initiatives at universities nationwide.
With these new features, Google's Gemini app is poised to become a comprehensive learning companion, transforming the learning experience by making it more interactive, personalised, and efficient.
