Fresh & Bold: The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana's Curriculum Upgrade

It's full steam ahead at the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIBG), as they prepare for a major overhaul of their academic curriculum. The aim? To cultivate a pool of qualified bankers brimming with future-ready skills that employers crave, and make ethics and professionalism the bedrock of the banking profession.

This revamp is in line with the institute's mission to champion banking education and regulate the banking practice in Ghana. And speaking at the 2022 Annual Governor and Bankers Dinner, the President of the Institute, Benjamin Amenumey, shared the exciting plans ahead.

"We're not just redesigning, we're revitalizing the CIBG curriculum to create more opportunities for skillset development – positioning ourselves as the premium learning partner to churn out trusted professionals for the banking industry," he revealed.

To accomplish this, the Institute will forge ahead with collaborative efforts to establish more Banking Academies with other banks and offer the Associate Chartered Banker programme and other banking certification programmes.

A key focus will be the implementation of technology-driven learning and delivery. The institute will also seek to mobilize resources for acquiring the necessary capabilities and technologies needed for effective learning and delivery,Amenumey added.

The insistence on upholding and enforcing the code of ethics and professionalism is a pillar of the new agenda. As a new Council, the Institute pledges to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. The Institute will continue to develop future-fit and ethical professionals, set standards, and ensure the observance of ethical standards and professional conduct among its members.

At the 2022 Governor's Day event (the institute's Annual Bankers Dinner), the Institute's contact person designation, Robert Dzato, emphasized the event's importance. The Governor's Day, he said, offered all industry players a unique opportunity to connect with the Governor and gain insights into the Governor's reflections and expectations on monetary policy for the coming years.

As for the 2022 Governor's Day & Dinner, it was the grand finale of the year's bankers' week celebration under the theme 'Future of Banking in Ghana: Ethics, Professionalism, and ESG Imperatives'. The week-long celebration included a month-long series of events ranging from health walks, conferences, induction orientations, and graduations.

The evening was a vibrant mix of music, dance, and moments of reflection. Several individuals were conferred 2022 Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB) honors for their outstanding contributions to the banking community throughout the year. Dignitaries from the 16 regions of Ghana's banks, including CEOs and managing directors, were also present.

Other highlights included a presentation of an honorary citation to Right Rev. Patricia Sappor, FCIB, the Institute's immediate past president, in recognition of her service as the organization's first female president.
