Foundation establishes versatile library in Kumasi, offering diverse resources for community growth.

The Read2Lead Foundation, a non-profit organization launched eight years ago to nurture the leaders of tomorrow through reading, recently unveiled its third library in the heart of Kumasi's Kotei suburb. This 5,000-square-foot haven houses not only a vast collection of books but also a community center, offices, private study rooms, and a state-of-the-art ICT lab with 20 computers.
This new hub serves an anticipated 30,000 students, including those attending schools in Kotei and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Samantha Boateng, the Co-Founder of Read2Lead, shared her motivation for setting up the library. Born in Kotei, she wished to repay her roots by giving back to the community that molded her. The first two libraries of the foundation are located in Accra and Ahafo Ano South, the Ashanti Region.
The third library broke ground in 2017 and opened its doors in February 2023. Apart from books, students can access private study rooms, modern ICT learning opportunities, and soon, creative arts courses. You can almost hear the knowledge and inspiration waiting to be unleashed!
Passionate about bettering schoolchildren's lives, Francisca Boateng, the foundation's co-founder, started this initiative. In partnership with her daughter, who collected books from her American school and friends, they gathered resources to enhance Ghanaian schools.
The Regional Director for Education in Ashanti Region described Read2Lead as a valuable partner in the government's mission to bridge the literacy gap. The new Kotei library demonstrates another significant stride in this joint endeavor.
The Oforikrom Municipal Director for Education emphasized the need for the community to embrace a maintenance culture to protect the library and facility. Parents were encouraged to motivate their children to make the most of this opportunity so they may grow into responsible community leaders.
The Chief of the Kotei Community reminded the students of the boundless wisdom contained within books, and encouraged them to utilize the library to broaden their horizons. With this library, Kotei students will experience a wealth of knowledge and guidance to support their growth and aspirations.
A quick glimpse at Read2Lead reveals their commitment to empowering future Ghanaian leaders by enhancing literacy and access to educational resources, particularly in underprivileged communities. With three libraries in Accra, the Ashanti Region, and now Kumasi, Read2Lead has positively impacted over 72,000 students, providing them with access to more than 50,000 books.
