A five-day Level 2 Forest School Assistant course is set to run at Foxburrow Nature Reserve, starting from the 13th of October 2025. This course, following Forest School principles, aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to support a qualified Forest School leader in delivering forest school programs.
The course is open to individuals aged 18 and above who have experience working with young people. Participants must read and agree to the terms and conditions and Learner Agreement before booking. Wheelchair access information is not provided, but those with limited mobility are encouraged to contact the organiser in advance.
Upon registration, participants will be provided with hot drinks, all required paperwork, tools, and equipment for outdoor tasks. It is essential to note that for safety reasons, participants are asked not to bring their own tools.
The curriculum covers both theoretical and practical aspects of Forest School principles and practices. The theoretical components include understanding the Forest School philosophy, risk management, and nature-based activities. The practical skills covered will include safe lighting, campfire management, use of hand tools, games, and activities. Woodland flora and fauna identification and sustainable woodland use within the context of Forest schools will also be covered.
As part of the coursework, participants must assist with at least three forest school sessions run by a Level 3 qualified Forest School Leader and independently complete their observations and record of support. A Level 2 workbook should be completed within 6 months of the start of the course.
Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch, suitable outdoor clothing, stout shoes or boots, a camera (optional), a notebook, and a cup and snacks. Dogs are allowed, but only assistance dogs. Schools or organisations can book their place via invoice by completing the online booking form.
