Ford and Dealers Invest $2M in Scholarships to Fight Automotive Tech Shortage

Ford and its dealers are investing $2 million in scholarships to attract the next generation of automotive technicians and tackle the industry's labor shortage. The Ford Auto Tech Scholarship fund will grant up to 400 need-based awards of $5,000 each to students enrolled in post-secondary automotive programs in specific metro areas across 20 states.

The U.S. is projected to need 400,000 new automotive technicians by 2027, with a current annual shortfall of 37,000 trained technicians. To address this, Ford dealers will offer students advice, career guidance, and training alongside the scholarships. The TechForce Foundation will administer the program, with applications open from March 4 through August 31.

Scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis as they are reviewed. Students attending schools in metro areas such as Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis, Miami, and Seattle are eligible. Funds can be used to cover tuition, tools, living expenses, and transportation.

Ford Motor Co.'s philanthropic arm, Ford Fund, along with a group of Ford dealers, is behind this initiative. They believe these scholarships will create job opportunities, shape the future of communities, and drive industry growth. The first scholarships have already been awarded, with more to follow as applications are reviewed.
