Expansion of IAA: Increase in Chinese Participants in Exhibitions
The International Automobile Show (IAA) returns to Munich, Bavaria, for another edition of innovation and unveilings, with an increased number of participants and a strong focus on electric vehicles.
Jürgen Mindel, CEO of the VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry), has expressed his confidence in the event, stating the presence of German manufacturers as a "signal of strength and confidence". Over 30 actual car manufacturers will be present, marking a significant increase from two years ago.
Among the 700+ exhibitors expected at IAA 2024, several Chinese companies will make their debut, including Forthing, officially entering the German market with three models presented by the general importer Indimo Automotive GmbH. The number of Chinese manufacturers is anticipated to increase by about 40 percent compared to IAA 2023, signifying a growing interest in the European market.
Kia and Hyundai have also returned to the IAA, joining the ranks of the German manufacturers who will present their innovations and new models. The show, now named "IAA Mobility", includes exhibitors from industries other than automotive, such as Deutsche Bahn and the bicycle industry, expanding its horizons.
Despite doubts in the automotive industry in recent years as to whether traditional trade fairs are still worthwhile, the IAA has managed to find greater international support. The move from Frankfurt to Munich in 2021 was a strategic decision aimed at revitalising the event's resonance.
IAA Mobility 2024 will feature 231 different test drive-able models, with the majority being electric vehicles. In line with this trend, no vehicles with traditional internal combustion engines will be present at the event. BYD has reserved 15 places for test vehicles, reflecting the growing popularity of electric vehicles.
Tesla, however, will not be present at IAA 2024. Despite this, the show promises to be a success, with the VDA already considering it a triumph as the main organiser. The Chinese automotive companies, seeking to strengthen their export offensive in Europe, are making a public presence in Munich's city centre, further adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.
Mindel has indicated that IAA will continue to take place in Bavaria in the future, although an official decision has not yet been made. As the world of automotive continues to evolve, the IAA Mobility 2024 promises to be a significant milestone, showcasing the latest advancements in the industry and setting the stage for the future of mobility.
