Slips Past Relentless Journalistic Pursuit - Evading Media Buzz: Her Secret Strategy Revealed

Nova Meierhenrich, a 51-year-old actress, host, and avid allotment gardener, has recently caused quite a buzz with her new book, "Lebensschlenker," about her unrequited yearning for motherhood. During a candid chat at the OMR event in Hamburg, she pilots a mobile eco-friendly garden in a rickshaw with Neudorff, a sustainable garden product maker,, she shed light on how she navigates the aftermath of her book, her tactics to find peace amidst the tumult, and her future plans beyond her garden plot.

The commotion stirred by your book took many by surprise. Did you anticipate such a massive response?

Nova Meierhenrich: Frankly, it blew me away. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind - I never imagined the topic would resonate so strongly or generate this much demand. My only goal was to initiate a conversation – about boundaries imposed on women, the K-question, the longing for children, and the myriad paths winding toward this subject. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and the heartfelt messages I've received on a daily basis boom with sentiments of relief and shared experiences. When I attend events and strangers reach out to whisper words of gratitude, it's a moment I can't help but emotionalize over.

As you navigate the whirlwind, how do you preserve your serenity?

Meierhenrich: It was a challenging lesson learned – discovering how to create those peaceful pockets among the mayhem. Prior to this, I was never good at resting and always seemed to be juggling multiple tasks. But ultimately, my body lets me know when it's had enough. My sanctuaries include an accessible van parked near my entrance, a quick dash to the Elbe beach, and of course, my allotment garden, where I find tranquility when the sun emerges. For me, digging into the earth brings me grounding like nothing else – even on days when I arrive straight from the airport with my suitcase in tow.

Does this immersion in nature contrast with the glamorous world you inhabit professionally?

Meierhenrich: Indeed it does. I've always been drawn to things that are earthy and unpretentious, even during my childhood. My upbringing, though filled with brothers, was devoid of typical girlish dolls and toys. Instead, we spent our time constructing treehouses and exploring the outdoors. Denmark, my favorite vacation spot, became my introduction to palms at age 17. Despite my career, my life maintains its earthy roots. My garden neighbors don't recognize me, and that's what makes it beautify – the focus shifts away from my celebrity status and revolves around shared interests.

Your garden plot is blooming this season; any surprising developments to share?

Meierhenrich: Absolutely! Rapid growth and vivid colors characterize my garden right now. The vegetables aren't ready yet since Hamburg's frost saints haven't yet made their way, but everything's blossoming and sprouting. From tulips to grasses, the plum tree and apple tree are also in full bloom. This phase is really magical, creating anticipation as I tidy up for spring events and graze on the bounty of fresh produce in my allotment garden.

Your partner, TV chef Brian Bojsen, doesn't seem to share your passion for gardening. Is that accurate?

Meierhenrich: That's right. He's more about the culinary side of things and steers clear of garden tools. He has zero interest in renovation or DIY projects – luckily, I don't either. He's the finest barbecue chef around, so our division works beautifully. I'm responsible for maintaining the garden, and he handles everything culinary.

What advice would you share for novice gardeners looking to embark upon their green journey?

Meierhenrich: First, stay open to surprises. You'll initially feel in control, but do remember: gardening is unpredictable from year to year. You'll learn that rainfall varies, and what worked one year may not work the next. So, release the pressure from the start and simply delve into the process, experiment, and enjoy your experience.

Second, resist the urge to make your garden too contrived. Allow your garden to breath and express itself. Adhere to allotment garden guidelines during this process but embrace your garden's natural growth. You may also find opportunities to rent smaller garden plots in cities, which is an accessible and fun alternative.

Thirdly, don't waste money on gardening clothing! Your wardrobe will adapt to your new attire without any additional investment.

What other projects lie ahead for you this year, beyond the allotment garden?

Meierhenrich: I have many exciting endeavors in the pipeline, but specific details are subject to change. We plan to embark on a journey to North Cape in our van this summer, splashing in various jobs across Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. This trek will also serve as a farewell excursion for our dream of having children. Our little dog and we will traverse the landscapes, embracing each adventure that comes our way. The summer stretches before us, and I can hardly wait!
