European Commission endorses plan for harmonizing national legislation on shielding workers from ionizing radiation hazards.
The City Development and Planning Committee (SPLA) of Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, has taken a significant step forward in the city's development plans with the adoption of the Strategic Development Concept (StEK) Gronau on June 24, 2025.
The StEK Gronau outlines ten measures for development, focusing on open spaces, built development, climate adaptation, water management, and networking of Gronau. One of the key projects resulting from this concept is the proposed construction of a rotating school.
The Planning Committee has referred the resolution proposal "Building a rotating school" to the School Committee for examination of need and a recommendation for the Planning Committee. If approved, a development plan and a change in the land use plan will be established after consultation and need assessment in the School Committee.
Two variants were presented to the committee for voting: building a rotating school or residential construction for the land development at Lerbacher Weg (HK4a). The first concept presented by the administration will serve as the planning basis for the rotating school.
The new primary school is necessary due to the organizational and structural restructuring of the Herkenrath school center. The school design includes two four-story main buildings, a three-part sports hall, and schoolyard and sports field areas. The proposed school can accommodate around 1,000 students.
Priority must be given to a project development due to the area limitation at Lerbacher Weg (HK4a). Another topic discussed in the Planning Committee was a resolution proposal for the Council on the future land development at Lerbacher Weg (HK4a) on the eastern edge of Heidkamp.

The StEK Gronau will serve as a guide for future planning in the district. The City Development and Planning Committee will meet again on September 4, 2025, and November 27, 2025, to discuss the progress of these projects and other development issues.
- The proposed construction of a rotating school in the city of Bergisch Gladbach is a significant project in the field of environmental-science and education-and-self-development, as it aims to provide a modern learning environment for around 1,000 students.
- The new primary school, with its focus on climate-change adaptation through its rotating design, aligns with the strategic development concept (StEK) Gronau's focus on innovative built development and environmental concerns.
- Integrating the study and understanding of climate-change and the environment into its educational practices, this innovative rotating school serves as a unique example of the intersection between science, education, and urban planning in the city's ongoing development plans.
