The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) Dortmund is organising its annual Bicycle Holiday Action, a programme aimed at promoting safe cycling habits and teaching traffic rules to children during the school holidays.

This year's project, titled "working voluntarily", offers a variety of activities designed to strengthen children's understanding of traffic. The action, which is open to all age groups including adults, runs until August 8th.

The Bicycle Holiday Action takes place on approximately 8000 square meters of space, where children can participate in training that includes slalom courses, see-saws, and chain elements. Crash courses are also offered for upper grades, featuring reports from paramedics, doctors, chaplains, and parents of accident victims to sensitize young people to safety.

Children under ten years old must be accompanied by a responsible person during the action. The aim of the action is to train children for road safety under complex conditions, while also combining it with play and fun to make learning enjoyable.

Andreas Bach from ADFC recommends using at least two locks (a combination of a frame lock and chain or folding lock) for better security, and for high-quality wheels, bicycle coding with an owner identification number attached to the top of the seat tube.

Police President Gregor Lange agreed, stating that consideration, attention, and respect are important components in road traffic. The chairwoman of ADFC Dortmund called for the expansion of bicycle paths in Dortmund to better protect children as small road users.

Participant Fatema expressed her enthusiasm for the action, stating she was having fun. Last year, 600 bicycles were recovered using this method, demonstrating its effectiveness in promoting safe cycling habits.

  2. To support the safety aspect of sports like cycling, ADFC Dortmund's Bicycle Holiday Action not only provides fun activities like see-saws and chain elements but also promotes learning about road safety, incorporating elements of learning and sports within their programme.
