Enhanced Online Security Website Launches: Offering Public Alerts, Reporting, and Educational Resources Against Fraudulent Activities
Protecting Kentuckians from Scams: Governor Beshear Launches StopScams.ky.gov
Governor Andy Beshear has announced a new initiative aimed at safeguarding Kentuckians from scams. The one-stop resource, StopScams.ky.gov, is designed to equip residents with the tools they need to stay safe from scams through awareness, reporting, and education.
The website, created in partnership with state agencies, private resources, and organisations such as the Better Business Bureau and AARP, serves as a trusted source of information on active scams in Kentucky and how to avoid them.
"Scammers will go to great lengths to steal money, and identifying scams early can protect both financial and emotional wellbeing," said Secretary Perry.
The new website offers resources on how to spot scams, ways to report them, and resources for recovering lost funds. Kentuckians can also sign up for alerts and information related to scam prevention via email or text message.
AARP Kentucky Volunteer State President Gary Adkins highlighted the importance of the new platform, stating, "Access to trusted information and real-time alerts empower consumers to stay one step ahead of fraud."
BBB President and CEO Reanna Smith-Hamblin expressed appreciation for the opportunity to work together on this initiative and looked forward to continuing the partnership in the future.
Commissioner Gibson expressed gratitude towards Gov. Beshear, state government cabinet leadership teams, law enforcement, the Better Business Bureau, and the Kentucky Chapter of the AARP for their long-term commitment to consumer protection.
The new initiative is part of broader efforts recognising the significant impact of scams in Kentucky, which reportedly cost residents $74 million annually. The Public Protection Cabinet is leading this initiative, emphasising the importance of fighting back against scams as technology and Artificial Intelligence become more prevalent.
Adkins encouraged Kentuckians of all ages to practice the "Pause, Check, and Protect" method when dealing with potential scams. This method encourages individuals to take a moment to verify the authenticity of any communication before taking action.
The new website is part of an effort that builds on Gov. Beshear's previous work as Attorney General focusing on preventing scams. By providing a centralised platform for scam-related information, resources, and alerts, StopScams.ky.gov aims to make it easier for Kentuckians to protect themselves from fraud.
