Encouraging transgender acceptance through Project Jade
In a significant step towards promoting equality and opportunity, Santander has joined forces with Fundación 26 de Diciembre to support Proyecto Ámbar, a programme dedicated to the employment of trans people.
Proyecto Ámbar, launched in 2019 under the leadership of Pedro Bogo, provides resources for training and work placement for trans individuals who face high rates of unemployment and other challenges. These challenges include working in prostitution, being turned away at job interviews, enduring verbal violence, dropping out of school due to bullying, being homeless, contemplating suicide, and being victims of hate crimes.
Santander's Embrace Network, a key initiative focused on diversity and inclusion, has signed an agreement to participate in Proyecto Ámbar. Through this partnership, employees of Santander can act as mentors, running workshops, talks, and providing guidance on career development within the programme.
The 17th Euro from your salary program and the 16th Euro from your salary contest are other initiatives at Santander that aim to stand with those most in need and promote diversity and inclusion.
At a recent event, Irene Fernández, Learning and Development Manager at the Corporate Centre, attended to show her support for Proyecto Ámbar. Susana Fernández, a beneficiary of the programme, shared her inspirational story of triumph. Susana, who worked in finance for two decades but could not live openly as a trans woman due to fears of being fired, believes Proyecto Ámbar helped her retrain in areas she knew nothing about and wants to use her new beginning to love herself more and better.
Pedro Bogo, director of Proyecto Ámbar, was also in attendance. As a leader who will manage the projects of Fundación 26 de Diciembre by applying strategic planning and community engagement, he is committed to ensuring effective implementation and impact.
Proyecto Ámbar is funded by the Municipality of Madrid, the Madrid Regional Government's Department for Social Policies, Families, Equality, and Natality, and the European Social Fund. This collaboration underscores Santander's commitment to diversity and inclusion, with promoting equal opportunity being a top priority to help people prosper.
By partnering with Proyecto Ámbar, Santander is not only supporting trans individuals in their professional development but also fostering a culture of inclusivity within its own organisation. Working at Santander is like working at a leading financial group with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion.
In this joint effort, Santander and Fundación 26 de Diciembre are making a difference in the lives of trans people, offering them the resources and support they need to thrive in the workplace and beyond.
