Prepping over 3,000 Teachers for the 2025 National Elections: A Crucial Role for Educators
Get ready, Philippines! Over 3,000 teachers are stepping up to ensure a smooth, honest 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE) experience. The Department of Education-Davao City Division (DepEd-Davao City) has confirmed these educators are geared up and ready to serve as members of the Electoral Board.
DepEd-Davao City Superintendent, Reynante Solitario, shared the deets: a whopping 3,690 teachers will be participating, with 1,060 already voting via absentee ballot. He added that schools turned into polling stations, as well as multipurpose halls for vote counting, are prepped and ready to go. The voting process at Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, where Vice President Sara Duterte is set to cast her vote, will adhere to standard protocols. Security for the elections will be handled by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

No threats have been reported against the electoral board members, but a dedicated task force has been formed to tackle potential threats, in collaboration with the DepEd regional office. Teachers are encouraged to report any odd happenings, and lawyers stand ready to offer on-site legal assistance if necessary.

While the number of teachers involved this year is lower compared to previous elections due to fewer clustered precincts, many teachers have shown interest. However, only a select few can serve based on Comelec guidelines. Despite the limitation, the Division remains optimistic that more teachers can join the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in December.
Solitario highlighted that the increased honorarium is a significant motivator for teachers to get involved this year. According to Comelec Resolution No. 11076, Section 13, teachers are entitled to an additional P2,000 in honoraria, plus 10 days of service credit.
"A heck of a lot of teachers are interested, but we just can't accommodate everyone," Solitario said during a media interview at the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) grounds on Friday, May 2, 2025.
