Icelandic Father and Son Pursue Carpentry Skills at Evening School

Two men, Sigurður Brynjar Pálsson and Sölvi Steinn Sigurðsson, are honing their carpentry skills at evening school. The father-son duo are planning to build a guesthouse together at the family's summerhouse next summer.

The CEO of Byko, Sigurður, shares his passion for hands-on work and creativity. Having worked in construction during his high school years, he took a different career path and is now the head of BYKO. In his spare time, he enjoys taking on carpentry projects at the family's countryside summerhouse.

Meanwhile, Sölvi, a 21-year-old university student of business, shares his father's interest in working with his hands. Although he initially had no plans to study carpentry, he jumped at the opportunity when his father invited him to take the courses together.

As a student of carpentry and business administration, Sölvi finds that the contrast between the two subjects is beneficial. He acknowledges that finding a balance between them can be challenging but believes that the key to success lies in staying organized and maintaining a positive outlook.

For Sigurður and Sölvi, the unique hands-on learning experience has been enjoyable. They admit that studying together has been special and a chance to spend quality time with each other while learning valuable new skills.

Sigurður claims that the most challenging part of the carpentry course has been adjusting to three-dimensional thinking and mastering basic drawing techniques. However, he is confident that this education will be beneficial for both his personal and professional life. In his current role, it will provide him with a deeper understanding of the challenges his customers face.

Sölvi, too, is optimistic about the future applications of his carpentry studies. Although he does not plan to pursue a career in carpentry at this time, he sees the potential for entrepreneurial endeavors in the future.

The father and son duo are set to graduate in the fall of 2023. Their first major project will be a guesthouse at their summerhouse in the countryside. According to Sigurður, every form of education is valuable, as it offers new experiences and broadens one's perspective. He encourages lifelong learning and believes that the carpentry education will serve him well in his career and personal life.
