HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, a renowned Thai royal known for her contributions to fashion, design, and Thai culture, was honoured by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on August 14, 2025 [1][4][5]. The prestigious WIPO Award for Creative Excellence was bestowed upon her by Daren Tang, the Director-General of WIPO.

In her new role as the WIPO Ambassador for Design and Fashion, Princess Sirivannavari will focus on promoting intellectual property in the creative industries, particularly in fashion and design. Her work in preserving Thai culture and traditions through her fashion and design projects, as well as her support for sustainable opportunities for local artisans and communities, will continue to foster social, economic, and cultural development through creative innovation [1].

The meeting between Princess Sirivannavari and Mr Suchart, Thailand's Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), WIPO representative Pimchanok Pitfield, and other ministry officials, discussed further collaboration between Thailand and WIPO. The discussions focused on leveraging technology, innovation, and intellectual property to drive economic growth [2].

The potential of the Global Innovation Index (GII) as a tool to enhance Thailand's global competitiveness was also explored during the meeting. Additionally, a pilot project to use intellectual property as collateral for financial funding was considered, with the aim of boosting investment and economic value [7].

The invitation for Princess Sirivannavari to serve as the WIPO Ambassador was based on her creative achievements and commitment to promoting intellectual property for sustainable development. This recognition continues the legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, Queen Mother, particularly in preserving and promoting Thai textiles globally [6].

The late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama 9) was previously honoured with a WIPO Global Leaders Award, demonstrating the organisation's ongoing appreciation for the Thai royal family's contributions to culture and innovation [8].

The announcement of Princess Sirivannavari's new role was made by Deputy Commerce Minister Suchart Chomklin on Friday. He highlighted her dedication to advancing Thai culture and craftsmanship on the international stage and noted that this recognition is a source of national pride [3].

Topics discussed during the meeting also included Thailand's soft power strategy, investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and the development of data centres [2]. Princess Sirivannavari's leadership continues to be a beacon for creativity, innovation, and cultural preservation, both domestically and internationally.
