Day 1 of Reynolds Week 2014 focuses exclusively on financial matters
Raquel Rutledge, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist and reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, shared her insights on using data for community projects at the Reynolds Business Journalism Week 2014.
The four-day event, hosted by the Reynolds Center, featured a keynote by Raquel Rutledge, as well as two concurrent seminars. One of these seminars, Strictly Financials, was focused on studying markets and sources, and was led by Jimmy Gentry from the University of Kansas.
Jimmy Gentry, who is also associated with the University of Kansas, was involved in the Strictly Financials Seminar, where he shared his expertise with professional journalists. However, Raquel Rutledge did not participate in this seminar.
The Strictly Financials Seminar was not about using data for community projects, but rather focused on the intricacies of financial journalism. Meanwhile, Raquel Rutledge's keynote address emphasised the role of business journalists as investigators and the importance of data in uncovering stories that matter to communities.
In addition to the Strictly Financials Seminar, another seminar was designed for professors teaching business journalism. The keynote address and both seminars were recorded and can be viewed on Vimeo.
Raquel Rutledge's keynote speech at Reynolds Business Journalism Week 2014 highlighted her extensive experience in investigative journalism and her commitment to using data to drive impactful stories. Her work has been recognised with the Pulitzer Prize in 2010, making her an inspirational figure for aspiring journalists and educators in the field.
